Hope springs eternal

Today, the vernal equinox, is the first day of Spring.  It’s a day I always look forward to because it reminds me of new beginnings and the hope of resurrection and rebirth.  Sorrow and loss will always be a part of the cycle of life but Spring reminds us afresh that another season will always come. Over the last 25 years I have been privileged to care for families who have suffered the loss of their loved ones.  I have closed a thousand casket lids and become, in that instant, the last person on earth to see the face of someone’s greatest treasure.  My faith has shaped my beliefs concerning what takes place next when I take them to the cemetery  but that faith will never be fully realized until I experience death myself.  In the meantime, this day compels me to believe once again that that which is “sown in corruption will be raised in incorruption” and that the loss we suffer here when our loved ones pass away will not be permanent.  Hope will always spring eternal.
